Flower of the month: Rajnigandha

Tuberoses are called Rajnigandha in India, this name translates to “fragrant at night”. The tuberose is no doubt very beautiful but it is mainly known for its delightful fragrance. Due to their smell they have been used in the perfume industry for many many years and that is why they are an important loose and cut flower.

Another thing to keep in mind about rajnigandha is that it is a nocturnal flower. Originally it is believed to be from Mexico, despite this the rajnigandha plays a very important role when it comes to pujas in India.
