Why Varamahalakshmi Puja is celebrated?
Varamahalakshmi is considered to be one of the most auspicious festivals that is celebrated by married women, it is celebrated during the Shravana month. In the Hindu calendar the Shravana month falls during July and August. This is particularly important for not only the South Indians but also the North Indians. While people in North India celebrate festivals like Tej, people in South India celebrate this holy festival that is known as Varamahalakshmi.
This festival is considered important in the South Indian states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Varamahalakshmi is celebrated by married women in order to commemorate the Goddess Mahalakshmi. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi is the same worshipping Ashtalakshmi; worshipping 8 Lakshmi’s. They are: Goddesses of Wealth(Shri), Earth (Bhu), Learning (Saraswati), Love (Priti), Fame (Kirti), Peace (Shanti), Pleasure (Tushti) and Strength (Pushti). While the Varamahalakshmi Vrata by married women is performed mainly for the well being of their husbands, it can also be done for the well being of their families.
